THE EDEN INTERVIEW – Maternity Nurse

Would you, could you, should you… be a Maternity Nurse?

One of the greatest aspects of writing for Eden is finding out about how some of the private staff we have placed are getting on. Here we speak to Anja Maleska about her role as a maternity nurse. We began by asking…

How did you end up in this particular line of work?

I worked as a nanny for years and I began by helping out one family that I was employed by when they had twins. I helped them through the nights and it led from there.

Did you always want to work as a maternity nurse?

No, it wasn’t something I had ever thought of really. I was a nanny.

Has your career been enjoyable to date?

Very. I feel so fulfilled doing this role.

Did you acquire any particular training for this profession?

I haven’t any training as such but my CV is full of praise from its now long list of employers that have employed me to see their newborns through the first six weeks of their lives.

What attributes do you have?

I’m patient and caring. Very positive and I cope well with little sleep.

What does your job involve?

I provide a relaxed settling in period for parents when their baby arrives. I offer essential support, care and advice for each of them.

Best bit about your role?

I mentioned first six weeks. But I can often end up staying with a family for double that. I really get to know those little babies!

Personal support in your job description

Eden have been a great support not only finding me work but following up on how I’m doing in the placement.

Working relationship tips/advice for up and coming Maternity nurses?

I would say that sometimes it can be tiring – but as long as you give yourself a break between jobs to catch up, it works.

Has the role opened any doors for you?

Financially it has offered me much more than I ever expected.

How do you relax? Spend your time off.

Sleeping! No I’m joking. I like to go shopping on my downtime.
