THE EDEN INTERVIEW

Would you, could you, should you… be a Night Nanny?

One of the greatest aspects of writing for Eden is finding out about how some of the private staff we have placed are getting on. Here we speak to Georgia Grace Hall about her role as a night nanny. We began by asking…

How did you end up in this particular line of work?

I had worked as a nanny for years. My vast experience led to taking jobs abroad where I soon had a reputation for being like Jo Frost – super nanny – my family’s considered me to have a magic touch! I decided to market myself for that reason alone.

Did you always want to work as a night nanny?

No, not at all. But I soon realised how I was having success in turning round the lives of families whose children had never learnt to sleep through the night. And obviously the money has been worthwhile.

Has your career been enjoyable to date?

On the whole, absolutely. It’s been so fulfilling. Teaching children to be able to sleep through the night gives the gift of sleep to the entire family. That’s pretty special.

Did you acquire any particular training for this profession?

I trained as a qualified nanny.

What attributes do you have?

Apparently, I’m lots of fun! And I’m patient. Oh and I can manage night shifts!

What does your job involve?

Working as a night nurse involves usually coming into a home where the child or children has erratic sleep and getting them into a good routine and sleeping at night.

Best bit about your role?

The best part of being a night nanny is ending the job knowing you are leaving a calm household behind with everyone sleeping through the night.

Do you have any working relationship tips/advice for up and coming night nannies?

It’s probably best to slowly work up to being a night nanny and gaining experience first as a day nanny. That way you can feel ultra confident about your role. That confidence will help you no end – more so than any training.

Has the role opened any doors for you?

Yes, when I worked for a family in New York, word spread quickly amongst their friends about how I was able to help with something they imagined was impossible. I was offered job after job after job in this way and it was definitely a two way street for a while.

How do you relax? Spend your time off.

I love to play sports, exercise and shop.
