Nanny/Housekeeper
This position differs from the role of nanny in that work is
carried out for all the family and not just for the
child/children.
Usual duties include: general house cleaning, family laundry,
some cooking meals and may or may not include some help with
entertaining (i.e. serving, cooking/preparing for dinner
parties). If no cooking is required, some food preparation may
be helpful.
In some cases, where a driver is requested, errand running,
shopping and school runs would be included.
In addition, some babysitting can often be required. A
Nanny/Housekeeper position can either be a live- out or live- in
post, although the latter is more usual.
Live-in / Daily Housekeepers
A good and reliable live-in Housekeeper will always be in
demand. The position generally involves the preparation of
family meals and occasional dinner parties and often requires a
willingness to assist with children. Above all the role demands
a flexible and willing person who adopts a 'hands on' approach,
coupled with a positive and professional attitude. Occasionally,
the Housekeeper may be responsible for the care of expensive
furniture, antiques or clothing. Excellent references confirming
competence and capabilities will be required.
A daily Housekeeper can either be full-time or part-time and
visits the household daily. Duties would usually entail general
household cleaning and in some cases may include undertaking
laundry and ironing. Other duties may include some food
preparation, errand running ,dog walking and pet feeding. Where
the employer is not always in residence, a Daily Housekeeper may
be entrusted with keys for access and to deal with any
emergencies.
