Nanny Qualifications

While there are no legal requirements for nannies to have any qualifications, Eden Nannies insists on those who have studied for two years and have reached Level 3 childcare qualification. This ensures the nannies are capable of working in an in unsupervised environment. Nannies without qualifications will be considered, dependent on their experience and reference checks. The following nanny qualifications are all valid:

  • CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education
  • Edexcel Level 3 BTEC National Certificate
  • NVQ Level 3 in Early Years Care and Education (England, Wales and Northern Ireland)
  • SVQ Level 3 in Early Years Care and Education (Scotland)
  • LCCIEB NVQ Level 3 in Early Years Care and Education
  • Advanced Modern Apprenticeship in Early Years Care and Education
  • CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Early Years Practice
  • NVQ Level 3 Certificate in Work with Children APEL (Accreditation of Prior Experience and Learning)
  • The Chiltern College Certificate
  • Norland College
  • The Princess Christian College

We also register nannies with international nanny qualifications. Eden Nannies work with an ever increasing number of overseas professional childcare colleges to source professional nannies from countries such as New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and from most European countries.

All our nannies need to possess a current DBS check through the Criminal Records Bureau and have valid first aid certificates.

Private Nanny Colleges in the UK

All nanny qualifications can be attained at most further education colleges.  However there are two specialist private college colleges in the UK from where we have provided numerous nannies to our clients.

Norland College was opened in 1892 and its nannies are recognised throughout the world, thanks in part to their distinctive brown uniforms. Norland Nannies have a very practical training – sewing and nutritious cooking – with a focus on child-centred care and nurturing skills.  The college also offers two Montessori qualifications. The courses last for two years and they have their own in-house employment agency, virtually guaranteeing work at the end. For more information visit their website.

The Chiltern College students study for a full time two-year course ‘The Chiltern College Nanny and Childcare Award’. This is a very intensive course and requires students to complete additional work placements with children and to demonstrate a range of skills and knowledge over and above the requirement of the Cache Level 3 Diploma. This includes a wider range of practical placements, a wide range of professional skills and creative skills for working with children (including swimming with children, singing with children, Makaton training, baby massage and baby yoga) an ability to cook for and with children (this covers nutrition and special diets), and the production of a range of resources for use with children in textiles and wood. First aid, food safety and safeguarding certificated courses are also covered. Chiltern College has an on-site nursery and school allowing nanny pupils hands-on experience throughout their courses.  Established in 1931, it is the only residential childcare training college in the UK.
