GET READY FOR AUTUMN!

So, now that autumn is definitely upon us, we thought it would be fun to share with you some ‘Top Tips for Autumn’ – a few useful and ingenious ways to help things go with an autumnal swing!

Embracing colours, spices and all things autumn, here goes!..

Halloween Pumpkins & Decorations: we all want our lovely pumpkin decorations to last that little bit longer, so here is a simple way to prolong them. Simply mix 1 part bleach to 10 parts water and spray the solution onto the pumpkins to stop the bacteria from destroying how they look (please be careful and adult supervision for children please).

Similarly, where you have carved out the eyes and mouth, in order to stop them going brown, simply apply petroleum jelly onto the exposed cuts and keep them fresher looking for longer.

And finally, for a really great way to clean out the inside of your pumpkins (you know, all the messy pith and pips!) simply attach a beater/whisk to a power drill and away you go!

We Love Potatoes! Colder autumn weather means we naturally turn towards comfort foods and that could mean potatoes! If you are eating lots & lots of potatoes and find yourself constantly standing at the sink washing them, save yourself the washing time by filling the dishwasher with lots of them and run them through the rinse cycle (no soap of course!)

Avoiding Chapped Lips: for anyone who suffers dried, sore & cracked lips once the colder weather arrives, a really great way to avoid this is by applying a nourishing oil such as olive or almond oil to your lips before you go to bed and let the oil work its’ magic overnight!

Make a Pumpkin Cooler: if you are entertaining, a wonderful and eye catching use of a pumpkin is to carve out half of a large pumpkin, fill with a little water and ice and get your bottles and cans cooling!

In a similar way, an autumnal floral arrangment in a pumpkin half is also very eyecatching. Halve a pumpkin, scoop out the contents, then place a piece of soaked oasis into the scooped out half so it fits snugly across the centre. Start arranging with beautiful autumn coloured flowers, berries and foliage. You won’t be disappointed with the effect!

Welcome the smell of autumn to your house: there is nothing better than the wonderfully natural homemade smell of all good things ‘autumn’, so why not try having a go yourself. This recipe will literally fill your home with the heady aroma of autumn: take a handful of cinnamon sticks plus one peeled orange rind, 2 tablespoons of whole cloves and 3-5 bay leaves. Fill a saucepan with water, add all the ingredients and simmer. The aroma released will be wonderful!

Bobbles be Gone! Once your cosy jumpers are out of the wardrobe once again, you may be thinking they look a bit tired and worn. It’s those damn bobbles that spoil the look! Try this simple idea to make your jumpers look good again. Simply drag an old razor delicately across the surface of your jumper and the bobbles will be instantly removed!

Make the best hot chocolate ever! Autumn is a very good time (and good excuse!) to start the hot chocolate season. Forget about all those boring pre-mixed packet offerings and instead try warming up a mug of milk with a large dollop of Nutella…delicious!

Wishing you a crisp and colourful Autumn!
