Location: Europe, Middle East, Worldwide

Reference: OSL-75677

Summary

Highly experienced Governess and qualified Teacher seeking a long-term private household role, combining extensive educational expertise with personalised tutoring, pastoral care and confident international experience.

Professional Overview

This highly experienced Governess and qualified Teacher brings an impressive career spanning private households, schools and early-years settings, supporting children from infancy through to secondary-school age. With multiple teaching qualifications, including Master’s degrees in Teaching English and Teaching Ethics, she offers families a rare combination of professional educational expertise and substantial hands-on private household experience. Her background encompasses private tutoring, homework and exam preparation, school liaison, language development, manners and social development, alongside the practical responsibilities of daily childcare.

Most recently, she completed a two-year rota Governess position in New Zealand, providing dedicated educational and pastoral support to an eight-year-old girl. Working closely with her school, teachers and tutors, she monitored homework, sourced additional learning materials and provided targeted support while also managing morning, after-school and evening routines. Her wider private household experience includes a previous two-year international rota role caring for four children aged three to 11, as well as earlier nannying experience with babies and children. This breadth allows her to combine the structure and educational insight of a Teacher with the warmth, flexibility and practical understanding required of a trusted Governess.

Added-Value Differentiators

Education is where she offers particular value. She is confident providing one-to-one tutoring, preparing her own lessons and resources, supporting examinations and liaising directly with schools and teachers. English is a particular strength, while her broad teaching career has also included Science, Geography, Music, PE, Art, IT and other subjects. With younger children, she is comfortable supporting learning across the curriculum and will independently research topics where necessary to ensure she can provide meaningful assistance rather than simply supervising homework.

She also brings valuable experience supporting children with additional educational needs, including autism, dyslexia and ADHD. Her approach is adaptable and individualised, drawing on many years of teaching children with different abilities and learning styles. Alongside academic progress, she places considerable importance on confidence, independence, manners and social development, giving families support that extends beyond the classroom.

Creativity is another genuine strength. She enjoys incorporating art, painting, music, singing, dancing and movement into children’s routines and has previously used Montessori-inspired activities, educational games, worksheets and interactive resources to make learning engaging. She is equally comfortable balancing academics with an active lifestyle, including swimming, cycling, hiking, skiing and outdoor activities.

Having travelled to more than 30 countries and worked internationally across Europe, New Zealand and the USA, she is highly adaptable to different cultures and environments. She has extensive experience accompanying private families on international trips and maintaining children’s educational progress and routines while travelling, making her particularly well suited to globally mobile households.

Soft Skills & Temperament

Warm, thoughtful and personable, she has a calm and relaxed manner alongside a friendly sense of humour. She takes a genuine interest in people and places considerable value on developing strong relationships with the children and families she supports. Her approach with children is creative, encouraging and reassuring, and she is particularly good at providing a calm presence when children need emotional support while still bringing energy and enthusiasm to their day.

She is open-minded, hardworking and ambitious, with the maturity that comes from a long and varied career in education and private service. Comfortable in both sole and shared-charge environments, she can work alongside parents, teachers, tutors and other household staff while maintaining clear professional boundaries. She is equally confident with proxy parenting and taking responsibility when parents are unavailable.

Outside work, she leads an active and interesting lifestyle. She enjoys travelling, discovering different cultures, hiking, cycling, swimming and skiing, alongside creative pursuits. She has also kept bees for around 16 years, reflecting her practical, outdoors-focused nature and genuine curiosity about the world around her.

What the Candidate Is Seeking

She is seeking a long-term Governess or Governess/Nanny position with a private family and is open to both rota and full-time opportunities. She is particularly interested in international roles across the Middle East, Europe and worldwide, and is happy to relocate and travel extensively with her employers. Her preference is for a rota arrangement, ideally around two weeks on and two weeks off, although she is flexible regarding both shorter and longer rotations and will consider full-time positions.

She has no particular age preference and can support children from early years through to secondary-school age, with a preference for caring for up to three children. She is comfortable with sole and shared charge, proxy parenting, parents working from home, babysitting and both formal and informal private households. She is also a confident manual and automatic driver with overseas driving experience and is comfortable with pets. For a family seeking an experienced professional who can take genuine responsibility for both a child’s education and their wider development, she offers an unusually broad and established skill set.
