Spotlight on ‘Maternity Nannies’

So, what exactly is a Maternity Nanny I hear you ask!

Well, simply put, a ‘Maternity Nanny’ will undertake the same role as a ‘Maternity Nurse’ but will usually have less experience with newborns and a ‘Maternity Nurse’ is employed solely to care for a baby.

We often recommend a ‘Maternity Nanny’ as a great choice & a flexible option to Clients who as well as a baby, also have older children, who the Maternity Nanny can help look after as well.

A Maternity Nanny will therefore be employed to help out with the whole family and can be much more flexible in their duties than a ‘Maternity Nurse’.

Many Maternity Nannies will possess a childcare qualification, will have at least 3 years’ experience of dealing with babies as well as older children and all will hold a current paediatric First Aid Certificate.

Clients may also find that the Maternity Nanny role actually evolves out of a successful Maternity Nurse booking and is a natural progression for everyone. For example, if the Maternity Nurse has had a good placement and has fitted in well with a family, they may be very loathe to part with her! So, in order to maintain continuity, the contract can be extended to incorporate Nanny duties as well.

Please do call the Eden Maternity Team for a chat to discuss whether a Maternity Nanny would be suitable for your family and if you would like to hear more about the benefits of employing one
